About the OzCHI Student Design Challenge (OzCHI24)
The OzCHI Student Design Challenge (OzCHI24) is an annual international student design competition run as part of the OzCHI conference. Since its inception in 2009, the competition has grown such that each year hundreds of students from all over the world participate. This competition is well suited to student from a diverse range of fields, such as human-computer interaction, interaction design, computer science, architecture, and humanities.
Your team will be provided with a brief containing a real world HCI research problem at the start of 24 hour challenge period which will be published on the Challenge page of this website. In response to the brief, you will have 24 hours to:
- Develop a video prototype or concept video of no more than 3 minutes, and
- Write a paper explaining your design process and concept of no more than 4 pages (including references) in the SIGCHI Extended Abstract format.
More information will be provided with the Challenge brief and during the 24 hour period about what you will be designing, some background reading, helpful hints, and instructions for the final submission. We will also be running mini challenges during the 24 hour period to support your progress through the competition, with some cool prizes up for grabs! Check out the Archive to review previous challenges and mini challenges.
The top 3 finalist teams will be invited to travel to the OzCHI Conference in Brisbane in December and present their entries to a panel of judges, where the final winner will be announced, and prizes and certificates will be awarded. Finalist teams will be awarded travel scholarships of up to 1,000 AUD per team to support their attendance at the conference, and their entries will be included on the Conference Proceedings USB.
