Jennyfer Lawrence Taylor (Student Design Challenge Chair)
Jen is a PhD student in Human-Computer Interaction at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. Her current research focuses on cross-cultural, participatory design projects with Australian Aboriginal communities, with an interest in digital participation, literacy and orality, and designing futures. Jen’s team ‘The Normans’ from the Australian National University won the competition in 2015, and she was a member of the SDC Committee in 2016. Jen believes that the competition is a valuable opportunity for participants to gain further experience in undertaking design research and engage with the Australian HCI research community.
Diego Munoz Saez (Student Design Challenge Committee)
Diego is a PhD student in Human-Computer Interaction at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. His current research focuses on understanding the experiences of parents living the empty nest transition, and the role of technology in the transition. Diego was part of the group ‘The Global Gang’ that participated in the Student Design Challenge in 2016, and this is the first time he is part of the SDC Committee. Diego values the design challenge because it gives a good approach of the complete process of writing a publication in a short period of time.
Shannon Rodgers (Student Design Challenge Committee)
Shannon is an undergraduate Information Technology student, majoring in Computer Science at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. She’s currently working on research that concentrates on adolescents and how they interpret and share sleep and lifestyle data. Shannon’s team ‘Doppio’ entered the Student Design Challenge in 2016, and this is her first time being on the SDC Committee. Shannon values the design challenge because she believes it’s a beneficial opportunity to put your skills to the test of time-pressure, whilst learning new HCI/research skills within a team environment. It’s interesting to see how much work you are capable of within 24-hours.
